Rocking Your Marketing w/ RSP

I’m no business person, but I think I understand the fundamentals, and I know I have a lot of work ahead. I may write because of the love of the story and because it pulls me down a fantastic path that I must follow. But, what I really want to do with this creation is share it with others. That is when the book will live and breathe on its own and THAT is when the true magic happens.

Sales are ancillary, a fringe benefit. But then, I have a LOT of books I want to write, so, validating that time expenditure needs to happen…one day.

So, how in the world do I tell the world about Veil of a Warrior? And how do I make them care?

There are a lot of great resources out there, but for a great place to start, I’d recommend:
RockingSelfPublishing.com - It’ a great podcast focused on the business of self-publishing for both fiction and non-fiction. Simon Whistler keeps the interview moving and gets lots of valuable detail. After a few of his podcasts, you may even start to think you have an idea of what to do next.

(He has resources on the website now, too—a new find, and one that I must plunder.)

There are discussions on paid advertising, the value of Newsletters, social media networking, blog tours, book covers, editors, beta readers and much more.

For now, this is my one-stop shop. What’s yours?

  1. Hi Clifton,

Thanks for recommending my podcast. As you say selling the book often comes as a second thought to authors, and often one that is just going to take away from time they could be writing. But as you rightly point out, unless you are writing for the love of it, you'll probably want to make a financial return at some point (even if just so you can spend more time writing, and less time earning money elsewhere).

Some of my favorite places for info are on that resources page you mention, which is in a real need of an update ;).

    Thanks again,

    Simon

    1. It's a whole-hearted recommendation. I have learned so much from your podcast and continue to do so.

However, as of yet, I've seen no single-click option to sell, market and advertise my book on your site. I think you should get on that. :-)
