Happy-Go-Lucky, or Dark and Demented?

Thinking about Stargate Universe vs. Stargate Atlantis, I had a realization: I like dark and gritty.

Ok, let’s not stop the presses or anything, but anyone that knows me outside of the net knows I am one of those unassuming people: too innocent and good-natured to go for some of the darker fare that I choose in my entertainment.

The Wonder and Bounty of a New Year

I may be a little late making my 2011 resolutions, but I wanted to give them some careful thought. And as we all know: most New Year's resolutions become a wash anyway. So, maybe it's just best to look at them as a guiding force and not as rock solid goals. (Cop out, you say? Yeah, maybe.)

My much delayed NaNoWriMo entry is still in progress, and I’ve been back and forth in writing it and going back to the outline to figure out where I’m going. My new goal is to finish the first draft soon—no later than the end of January.

Book Review: Kell's Legend, by Andy Remic

(This is a repost of my review that appeared on SF Signal recently - reposted here for posterity)

Paperback: 448 pages
Publisher: Angry Robot (September 3, 2009)
ISBN-10: 0007324154
ISBN-13: 978-0007324156

Kell is a retired warrior of legend, suffering from arthritis and the sluggishness of age, until a bloodthirsty army descends upon his town to lay destruction. He takes up his dreaded butterfly axe named: Ilanna, to do battle. Fleeing an enemy that proves too strong, Kell sets out with some lone survivors, on a journey that becomes nearly forgotten amidst an onslaught of horror and bloodshed that unfolds in their path.

Remic pulls out all the stops to make sure that his characters are challenged. At times you may wonder if he is going down a checklist of torturous torments to visit upon these hapless souls, fleeing for their lives.

Year in Review

2010 was a great year, full of growth, delights, and wonderful memories. Here is my own personal year-in-review, as I look back....

In the last year I finished my first book, The Veil of a Warrior (my Hestea Hammerblood story). I put it into beta with some trusted individuals and got the feedback necessary to help me polish and revise it. (Thank you: Max, Steve, Todd and all the rest that may have started and been unable to finish with the demands of busy lives.)
